Starting with a positive - We stayed for one night for €5 each, and at that price you shouldn't expect the Ritz. But I've stayed at other hostels who manage to do better for the same price. Check in was a little chaotic as there is no reception, and there only seemed to be one girl working at the time who was rushed off her feet with other things to do so it took a while. Security was a concern as the main gate to the courtyard was never locked and the rooms were not locked either. At around 11:30pm a guy came into our room and urgently asked us where we were from, I think he was trying to confirm that everyone in the room was supposed to be there? Not a great time of day to do that, and something that could be avoided if the hostel had better security. The beds were SQEAKY. So squeaky you're afraid to then over in the night as you would surely wake everyone else up. The sheet covering my mattress was not big enough to tuck under the mattress so it kept scrunching up revealing the mattress, so not very hygienic. We were only given a thin sheet as a blanket so when some of the others in the room insisted on cranking the air con to the coldest setting we froze in the night. And there was nobody we could take our concerns to as there seemed to be no staff on site (This was made clear by a frantic screaming guest in the middle of the night who claimed she had booked a taxi through one of the hostel workers, given them money and the taxi never showed up.) There was a small kitchenette which we would have used but all of the dishes were dirty and all piled up in the sink.

Very good location, perfect cleanliness and amazing atmosphere made my stay in Podgorica relaxing and comfy. The only minus was limited toilet paper, but it is a minor problem for this price.

Great little hostel with friendly people :) I was there in the off season so it was quiet but a good place to stay for a night. It was an extremely good price as well! WiFi worked well but I unfortunately I wasn't quick enough to get a hot shower before all the workers had one 🙈 just had to wait an hour or so for more! Thank you Michael for being a great host!

There's a suspicious permanent resident in the hostel sleeping in my bed! In the hostel, there's no reception. From the outside of the hostel, you'd think it is an old village instead of a hostel. The gate only has a tiny sign written "Hostel Maria". When the 'receptionist' showed me my room, there's someone else sleeping in my bed! Although they immediately made the bed again, the hostel doesn't seem to have an info tracking how many guests are in the room for the night! During the midnight, there's even some more staff coming in our room looking for some vacant beds! There's also no blanket on my bed! When I see the staff in the middle of the night, I immediately grabbed him and asked, "Do you possibly have a blanket??" And he just pointed my bed sheet! Anyway, we survived for the night! But the condition for the kitchen and the bathroom was really terrible! There's unclean dishes in the sink, broken rubbish bin, dirty bathtub, broken toilet seat! By the entrance, there's also two half-naked old people hanging around the mini graden. They were doing the laundry! I think it is really a village residence without a proper license!! I don't think it is worth to stay for the night even though it was only 6 Euros per person!! HIGHLY NOT RECOMMENDED!!

Friendly owners, he offered home-cooked dinner but he started cooking outside of the private room I was in at 930pm and that wasn’t very nice. Besides that they are super friendly, they would point you the right way if you ask - Market, things to do, car rental, etc. There’s no check in at all, I suspect they might take the city tax without registering with government official. “Check in” was a breeze, no check of passport. When I was asked to pay rent at a later stage, I asked how much and one of the owners replied “I don’t know” and the shout to another owner asking for how much. So I paid eventually. During the course of evening, I was disturbed a few times as the internet isn’t working for other guests so the owner had to come into my private room to reset the WiFi router. Getting back to the hostel isn’t a problem, all doors are basically open, unlocked, or you could climb through the windows. You won’t need a key (if they would actually give you one). Hospitality is at its best when one of the owners seems to be living in one of the dorms with guests. Kitchen is right outside of your door when you need late night snack, or water, or the bin. (Literally at your door, see pic). All you need you will find in the kitchen, it’s a stove top full of plates (dirty or clean, you will never know), pots, left over, cups, knifes. Two steps back from cooking you will find a table for 2 (or 3 if you grab a chair from somewhere, anywhere) and you can talk with other owners. Or you could sit on the stairs to have your food while observing the meaning of life. Owners seems to have friends over from time to time for a coffee or tea at the table. Kitchen needs a clean, to be honest. Fridge for everyone, including the owner where he stores his ice cream (which he took out and eat from the tub during the hot afternoon when I check in, best way to chill) Bathroom.....working powerful shower, just lots of grimes in the shower cubical. Toilet paper easily run out for some reasons. Disclaimer: I only stayed one night out of three booked. Maybe things are better the other nights I didn’t stay.
